At the performances at Blu Jaz we're been singing along with some of the rhythms. One of the more popular ones is Djole, and someone asked me "What do the lyrics mean?"
I've done some research, and I've yet to confirm it but it appears that the lyrics are made up by Mamady Keita from a number of dialets and it's the sounds that make the song - my understanding is that it doesn't really mean anything directly translated.

Photos from the Singapore Workshops with Mamady Keita are out! Please check the links below. Very inspirational and I think we all discovered what an amazing teacher he is, and discovered new rhythm in ourselves.5 members

On Monday 19th Nov, I attempted the advanced test and I have passed! Yippee!
It is the first performance test that I have gone through in about 18 years... and the first one ever with an instrument! Crap I was so nervous!
My heart was in my throat the whole time, and I was so nervous that I had to restart a couple of rhythms a few times. Fortunately we do not get penalised for that!

I did the dununs (Sangban) for the Monday night class last night.
They're doing Kassa, and I picked what I thought was the easiest rhythm, and I think it ended up being the hardest because most of the beats were off-beats.
Sheesh!
For those that are interested in doing the Dununs for other classes, please put your name down with Kelvin.
